CLASS ETIQUETTE 

Arrive on Time

Classes begin promptly as stated on the website ignited. Arriving on time allows you to participate in the full warm-up, which is crucial for prevention of injury, and prepares your body for class. If you happen to be late, enter quietly and join the class without disruption.

Dress Appropriately & Stay Hydrated

Please ensure that you wear the appropriate dancewear for your class type. Your attire should be comfortable, yet functional for the style of class you are taking (ballet, hip-hop, heels, jazz, etc.). We highly recommend tying back hair and avoiding heavy jewelry, as a safety precaution. 

As artistic athletes, it is crucial that we stay hydrated. Always bring a bottle of water when participating in any dance class (You will sweat). Staying hydrated will prevent cramping, lethargy, and will regulate your body temperature.

Respect the Instructor

Please avoid talking when the instructor is demonstrating or giving instruction during class. It is important that students pay attention for safety purposes and to progress within their dance journey. If you have a question, wait for an appropriate moment, such as during a break or when the instructor invites questions. Respecting our instructors preserves an overall focused atmosphere. 

Respect Personal Space

Be mindful of your proximity to others when dancing. Spatial awareness is necessary to avoid crowding or colliding with fellow dancers. Dancing comfortably may require adjusting your movements and/or your position within the space. 

Respect the Space

Remember to pick up any trash or personal belongings. Respecting the space, means leaving it as it was before entering. Cleaning up after ourselves keeps our studio neat and safe for everyone. 

This is a Safe Space

Everyone is on their own dance journey. Being respectful and kind to one another can have a huge impact. Ignited Dance Collective prides itself on creating a community where every dancer feels joy and support within the space. So, stay positive, celebrate with other dancers, and encourage one another to be authentically yourselves without judgement.

Hygiene

Be sure to come to class in clean clothes and deodorant. Bring a towel, if you’d like. Keep in mind to wash your dance attire after every use. Bad hygiene can be very distracting for others in the class. This is an additional way we show respect for our space. 

• Shower the same day if possible and put on fresh dance wear. 

• Use a mild deodorant. Many dancers reapply throughout class.

Phone Usage When Filming in Class 

We love to see you posting your strengths and tagging us on social media. It can inspire others and encourage you to continue growing. However, it is significant that we handle filming in class respectfully and appropriately.

Always ask permission from your instructor and dancers before taking a video. As previously stated, dancers feeling safe and supported reflects the values of Ignited Dance Collective. We provide a space where dancers can explore, make mistakes, and refine their skills. Sometimes, filming can even make you or others feel judged or left out. 

At the end of class, your instructor may ask you to perform some choreography for our social media page(s). This is a great opportunity to strengthen your performance skills. If you are not comfortable being filmed, please speak to your class instructor to opt out.

Failure to abide by the IDC class etiquette policy may result in dismissal from class and/or permanent removal from all IDC related activities.
